LA-EA4 adapter has it's own autofocus system.

This adapter allows to use the older (and excellent) Minolta A-mount zoom lenses from the mid-1980s. Those lenses tend to be all-metal, so they've held up amazingly well. And, they can be procured for 1/20th of the cost of new Sony E-mount zoom lenses. If you get an older Minolta Auto-Focus lens, this adapter will power it and it will integrate with your camera seamlessly.

It works with almost all Autofocus SONY A-mount objectives

Minolta, Sony, Tamron, Sigma and other objective with A-mount will perfectly work on all your SONY NEX, SONY A7, SONY A9 models.

Manual lenses will also work in manual mode.
