Vintage sametti mekko

Tummansininen sametti mekko, kultaisilla yksityiskohdilla. Aitoa vintage, 1940-tyyliin, rayon ja silkki.

This is a genuine vintage dress, judging by the rayon velvet fabric and hand sewing.

Bought from a vintage and antique clothing boutique in Edinburgh, this has been stored but not worn.

The style is 1940s. The sleeves are in the 30s gathered, slightly voluminous style, but the fabric and seems are in such good condition it must have been sewn later.

The velvet is unbelievably soft, forget your modern velvet imitations, and for this reason I am reluctant to sell this too cheaply - I must be able to find a use for this beautiful fabric even if I can’t wear the dress! It is labelled as “rayon pile and silk-back”.

The colour is a deep midnight blue, and is very hard to photograph with my phone.

It has delicate gold-trimmed lace around the collar and sleeves, which has been hand-sewn into the inside of the dress and could easily be unstitched without leaving a trace, if you wanted to remove it.

The gold zip up the front of the dress still works smoothly.

The waist measures around 37cm.

Condition : please read! The dress appears at first glance to be in perfect condition, but there are some small flaws which could be fixed, or one could wear the dress easily without anyone noticing these, I think.

- the bottom hem has turned down, exposing the silk back. This could be restitched back into place, if needed,

- there is a small hole about 7cm from the front hem, see the photograph, and could be repaired with a few tiny stitches,

- a larger tear can be found on the back about 15cm from the hem, see the photograph. It is quite a clean tear, by which I mean the gap could be stitched back together with some simple stitches, it wouldn’t require any particular skill at sewing.

- there is a small loop to use for a belt, which I do not have.

Otherwise, this has been stored carefully and does not have any odours or marks.

If interested, you are welcome to come to see the dress in Portsa, but not to try it on - I have experienced buyers trying on vintage items in the past, only to damage them. Instead, please ask for measurements.
